As far as I know, idli is one of the safest foods the south Indians consume regularly. If you know the preparation method, it is a quick and easy food.
Masala Idli prepared at home using ID Batter
In a large family, the idly batter is prepared and allowed to ferment overnight. In the morning, Idly is prepared in a large vessel (specially made to prepare idly) and served to the members of the family. More than 20 idli’s can be prepared on one go (depends on the size of the vessel).
In a micro family setup (2-3 members), preparing idli in a traditional way may become costlier. Also, not everybody knows how to prepare idli batter. In this situation, the easiest way is to go for a readymade idly batter.
We use ID idly batter and a small vessel with a capacity of 9 idlis at a time. It really works out for a small family with 3 or less members.
What you see in the image is a masala idly which we experimented with the ID batter. It really came out well and was awesome with pudina chutney.
